01/18/2007 - Durham, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The "Cameron Crazies" will be in full force tonight as the 14th-ranked Duke Blue Devils play host to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in ACC action.
Wake Forest is a respectable 9-7 overall this season, but the team is just 2-4 on the road and 1-3 in ACC games. The last two outings for the Demon Deacons have resulted in defeat, including an 88-74 setback at home to NC State on Saturday.
Duke's 14-3 overall record is certainly impressive, but the team has lost two of its first three ACC tilts. The lone conference win came in the team's most recent outing, as the Blue Devils avoided an 0-3 start by rolling to an 85-63 decision over Miami-Florida on Sunday. Duke is 11-1 at Cameron and always among the nation's most difficult teams to beat on its home floor.
Duke owns a 154-75 lead in the all-time series with Wake Forest, including nine straight home wins over the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest only has one double-digit scorer in the lineup, as Kyle Visser is netting 18.3 ppg despite his 63.3 percent shooting from the floor. Visser is also pulling down 7.8 rpg, as he has proven to be one of the better frontcourt players in the ACC. No other player is netting more than 8.9 ppg for the Demon Deacons, but they are averaging a solid 76.4 ppg through 16 outings. In the 14-point home loss to NC State last time out, Kevin Swinton paced Wake with 16 points off the bench, while L.D. Williams and Visser scored 11 points apiece. The Deacs actually connected on a stellar 53.8 percent of their field goal attempts in that tilt, but their 22 turnovers offset to positive shooting effort. Also, it didn't help matters that they permitted NC State to shoot 60.7 percent from the floor.
The Blue Devils shot a season-high 68 percent from the floor to knock off Miami on Sunday. Freshman John Scheyer registered a career-high 25 points on the strength of his perfect (11-of-11) effort from the foul line, and Greg Paulus pitched in 15 points. DeMarcus Nelson finished with 14 points for the Blue Devils, and Josh McRoberts rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points before fouling out of the contest. Duke earned a 32-16 rebounding advantage and a 22-12 edge in points from the foul line. Nelson brings a great deal of leadership to the floor in addition to his 14.8 ppg. McRoberts adds 12.6 ppg and 7.7 rpg, and Scheyer is scoring 11.8 ppg. The Blue Devils are netting a modest 69.4 ppg this season, but they are limiting opponents to 56.1 ppg on 39.3 percent shooting from the field.

The most popular sports to bet on are NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with the basic wager on a game’s outcome (also called betting the side). College Football Point spreads are used in both football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. ( See our article detailing how and why point spreads are made)
But you could also simply bet on the money line, or straight-up winner of the game. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides. While money line gambling is an attractive option for football and basketball bettors who only care about picking a winner, it is the primary option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball and individual sports like boxing, tennis, golf and racing events such as NASCAR. ( More details on playing the Money Line)
Another bet across all major team sports including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game, called an Over/Under total. For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21; the scoring of both teams added up to 45, which means the game went Under . So Under bettors won, and Over bettors lost.
Sports gambling doesn’t end there. Betting sides and totals are the most common wagers available everywhere, but many sportsbooks also offer future bets on big upcoming events like who will win next year’s Super Bowl and what movie will win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, with NFL futures you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even starts. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl odds might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders.
Involves one individual wager, whether it be on your team to cover the point spread, to win the game straight-up on the money line, or to go over/under the total.
